\"Photo<\/a>Born in <\/span>Dhaka, Bangladesh<\/b><\/span>, Laila began the form <\/span>Ustad Mir Qasem Khan<\/b><\/span>, nephew of the legendary maestro<\/span>, Ustad Alauddin Khan<\/b><\/span>(Ravi Shankar\u2019s guru). She further continued under the tutelage of <\/span>Partha Chatterjee<\/b><\/span>, <\/span>Krishna Bhatt<\/b><\/span> and <\/span>Kushal Das<\/b><\/span>.Laila has a BA degree in Fine Arts from Dhaka University.<\/span><\/p>\n

She has performed in prestigious venues like,<\/span>The Kennedy Center Wash DC, The Shakespeare Theater ,Wash DC,The Purcell Room, South Bank Center, London, The Nehru Center, London, The Bengal Festival, Dhaka, The India International Center, New Delhi, BHU, Benares <\/b><\/span>etc <\/span><\/p>\n

Her performance \u201cMusic For Peace\u2019 at <\/span>UNESCO <\/b><\/span>presented by the<\/span> Embassy of Bangladesh, Paris.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

She has recorded and performed with world renowned tabla artists such as <\/span>Pandit Anindo Chatterjee<\/b><\/span>, <\/span>Ustad Tari Khan <\/b><\/span>– collaborated with South Indian classical, Jazz saxophone \u2013 composed for Sitar\/Cello duet and music for dance (Dakshina Dance Company). She has combined her sitar concerts with her water color paintingsin the US, UK and Bangladesh. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>She is featured in the \u2018Touring Artists Roster\u2019 of the Maryland State Arts Council. She has received the prestigious Individual Artist\u2019s Award from MSAC and AHCMC. She received the \u2018Lifetime Achievement Award\u2019 from ASHA, a women\u2019s organization. Alif established her music school, <\/span>Sitar Niketan<\/b><\/span>, in Bethesda MD.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her DVD \u2018<\/span>Hridayaragam\u2019<\/i><\/span>, was featured in the\u2019 Women\u2019s History Month\u2019, Smithsonian, Wash DC. And \u2018Strings of Resonance\u201d was nominated as the best classical music, in Dhaka.<\/span><\/p>\n

Laila\u2019s upcoming CD , <\/span>Ekavali <\/b><\/span>(The Connecting Thread) with sitar\/world melodies\/world percussion, symbolizes the unity of humanity.<\/span><\/p>\n
